13.   Pump House

Built in 1914 at the end of the Treadwell wharf, this concrete pumping plant’s three centrifugal pumps lifted 2,700 gallons of water a minute from Gastineau Channel.  The water was used for milling and fire protection during the winter when fresh water from the Treadwell Ditch was frozen in snowpack.  The iconic pump house is all that remains of the once bustling wharf.  It was restored by the Treadwell Society in 2013 at a cost of about $30,000.
